Dawah Responsibilities of the Muslim Ummah in the Present Age: Contemporary Challenges and Prophetic Guidance

Abstract

Dawah is one of the important responsibilities of the Muslim Ummah. The Qur’an describes the Muslim community as a community that calls people towards الخير, encourages what is right and discourages what is wrong. In the present age, the nature of dawah has changed considerably because of globalization, social media, rapid communication, ideological diversity, materialism and growing interaction between different religions and cultures. These changes have created new opportunities as well as new responsibilities for Muslims. This study examines the major dawah responsibilities of the Muslim Ummah in the present circumstances in the light of the Qur’an and Sunnah. It discusses the need for wisdom, good character, knowledge, patience, dialogue, social service, family تربیت, responsible use of digital media and representation of Islam through practical conduct. The study argues that contemporary dawah cannot remain limited to traditional speeches and gatherings. It should address the intellectual, moral, social and practical problems faced by people today. The Prophetic model shows that successful dawah combines knowledge with wisdom, speech with action, and firmness in principles with kindness towards people. The study concludes that the Muslim Ummah can fulfil its dawah responsibility more effectively when it develops sound knowledge, ethical conduct, social awareness, digital literacy and a balanced approach based on the Qur’an and Sunnah.
